SCHOOLS
Park View Academy
Teacher: Peter Czajkowski (drama/citizenship/PSHE)

20 students from Year Group 9
Themes: Democracy, Crime and Consequences, the media, Identity
Reason for application: “Need to develop active citizenship programmes and also the literacy skills needed for scriptwriting, to build drama techniques in KS3 for KS4.”

Alperton Community School
Teacher: Eileen Sabur, (English/Citizenship)

Year Group 9
Themes: Justice and Equality
Reason for application: “We’re interested in having an active learning approach to citizenship education. The play would enable students to reflect on concepts and consider choices that can be made.”

Rooks Heath College
Teachers: Carey Neal and Giovanna Capoluongo (drama) - booked by Veronica Lane, G&T co-ordinator

20 students from Year Group 9
Themes: Class system and racism
Reason for application:
At Rooks Heath we have a diverse group of students on our Gifted and Talented scheme who would relish the opportunity of taking part in this exciting and challenging programme. One of the barriers to success at this school is poor literacy skills, even for some of our brightest students. They come from backgrounds where English is not the first language spoken and this would be a super chance to work on improving their writing and thinking skills.
A number of them have been members of the debating society at school and this would give them the chance to enhance skills concerned with expressing themselves and listening to others.
Participation in the programme will complement work already done on social issues(such as class, prejudice and identity) covered in their Drama and Citizenship lessons
It is hoped that the plays that will be devised and written could be performed by students at our International Evening /Arts festival at the end of the Summer Term
For many of our students, some of whom come from economically deprived backgrounds, this will be the first opportunity for them to visit a theatre
The skills they learn can be shared with other students

Alexandra Park School
Teacher: Zena Zenonos (drama)

25 students from Year Groups 8 & 9
Themes: Bullying, confidence, self-esteem, acceptance
Reason for application: “Literacy skills are vital and we hope to develop these in our students, enabling them to feel more confident when voicing their opinions. It seems that this workshop would give them an opportunity to do this, as well as helping them to develop a real love for the subject. We also feel that some of our Year 8s and 9s are currently struggling with team work and communication skills; this programme would help them to develop these areas, as well as providing an opportunity to explore issues which are relevant to them.” Most of the students selected struggle with literacy and need confidence building.
