What is the Letter of Agreement?
If an agent offers to represent you, there is rarely a binding contract issued to the writer, only a letter of agreement setting out the conditions: the standard 10% of any fee negotiated by the agent.
Necessarily, the exact details of this letter will vary from agent to agent. No agent can therefore "keep" a writer from seeking another agent should they want to (though this may change due to a new EC directive which demands that all such arrangements be made in a legal form). If you are unsure about any aspect of your relationship with your agent, you should consult the Writers Guild or take legal advice. |
