Future Plans

writernet has been through a process of Organisational Review, which enabled us to examine our work and its effectiveness as well as identify ways forward for the organisation in the future (you can read more about this process in Beware the Writing On The Wall).

The report from the Organisational Development Consultant enabled us to identify our core and aims and objectives, and from this we have developed a multi-strand approach to delivering them.

This breaks down into 4 existing areas of work: Professional Development, Diversity, International Work and Third Sector/Applied Contexts.

We are now building a 5th area of work alongside these other four: Journal and Residency. This 5th area is important as while we are proactive, we also remain open to opportunity and change.

How we do it

1. Professional Development, presently manifested through our Turning Heads Into Tales programme.

This currently includes Career Development Roundtables, the South West Theatre Writing Network, Yorkshire Theatre Writing Network, Playwrights Network of regional and national agencies across the UK, our partnership with literaturetraining, the mentoring scheme with Apples & Snakes and Graeae, and the development of this website. It also includes all the information, advice and guidance from the offfice and our Script Reading Service.

2. Cultural Diversity, presently manifested through our Hydroponic Programme.

3. International, presently manifested through our Fence Network and Janus & Acts of Translation projects.

4. Third Sector/Applied Contexts, presently manifested through our Write Thinking project and our connection to the Transmission Projects.

5. Journal / Residency

We plan to develop our writernet bulletin into a quarterly journal. As part of this project we also hope to have our first artist-in-residence.

As soon as the work is described in this way it is possible to see that these strands are interconnected and also, to some extent, arbitrarily given form (for example, Transmission is also International, Acts of Translation is also Culturally Diverse; parts of Hydroponic are Professional Development, and so on). This is quite deliberate in that it promotes cross fertilisation, allows budgetary flexibility and maximises the potential impact and value of what we do.

For further details on areas 1-4 please look across this site. Details on the Journal / Residency will be published shortly.
